Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 have tons of camera improvements under the hood

Except for a wider field of view employed by the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s 10MP selfie camera, there’s barely any difference between the imaging hardware used by the Galaxy Z Flip 5 / Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the 2022 models. However, the software underlying the camera (and even the Gallery app) went through significant changes, and the mobile photography experience enabled by the 2023 foldable phones should be superior. Here’s how it changed. Samsung published a new table of contents for CamCyclopedia on the official community forums (via @theonecid), explaining how the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 improved the photo, video, gallery, and editing experiences. Improved photo and video shooting experiences The improvements listed in this updated CamCyclopedia table of content are a perfe...

Don’t Miss: Perseid Meteor Shower and a Rare Super Blue Moon

Saturn reaches opposition this month, meaning it’s at its biggest and brightest for the year, and visible all night. The “shooting stars” of the annual Perseid meteors are a must-see, overnight on August 12th. And this month brings two full moons – the second of which is a “Super Blue Moon.” What’s Up for August? See Saturn at dusk and dawn, the Perseid meteors return, and a “super blue moon.” In August, we’ve lost Venus and Mars from the evening sky, but we’ll have great views of Saturn all night. Saturn reaches opposition this month, meaning it’s directly opposite the Sun as seen from Earth. Planets at opposition rise just after sunset and are visible until dawn, and it’s when they appear at their biggest and brightest for the year. Look for the giant planet low in the eastern sky...

49ers Training Camp Day 7 breakdown: Quarterbacks

Day 7 of the San Francisco 49ers training camp is officially over, as it was a lighter practice following an off day Wednesday, as the team implemented a ton of play-action work, while several key players on either side of the ball rested. The offense had a good day, as each of the quarterbacks played solid collectively, despite the absence of left tackle Trent Williams, left guard Aaron Banks, and running back Christian McCaffrey.11-on-11s: 1st Period Brock Purdy (QB1) Brock Purdy overthrows an open Deebo Samuel running a 15-20 yard crosser, misfiring with pressure coming on the play. This was one of Purdy's poor throws of the day, as he flat-out missed an open receiver looking to push the ball downfield, which was a little surprising, given his regular success in the intermedia...

Gas prices are on the rise. Here’s why

Gas prices are on the rise as high temperatures hamper refinery production and demand remains elevated. Prices are still well under where they were a year ago. However, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline hovered at $3.82 on Thursday, up 11 cents from a week ago and up nearly 30 cents from a month ago, according to data from AAA. One year ago, the national average sat at $4.16. The cost of crude oil, which accounts for nearly half of what consumers pay at the pump, shot up $11 per barrel over the last month, Lipow Oil Associates President Andy Lipow said. GAS PRICES MAY SPIKE AS MUCH AS 10 TO 25 CENTS THIS WEEK IN SOME STATES For instance, on June 26, prices were at $69.37. As of Thursday, they are around $80, which "is equivalent to a 26 cent per gallo...

iPhone 16 Pro Models to Adopt Stacked Camera Sensor Design

Apple’s iPhone 16 series next year will adopt a stacked rear camera sensor design across the lineup, following similar adoption in this year’s standard iPhone 15 models, according to Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This year’s lower-end ‌iPhone 15‌ and ‌‌iPhone 15‌‌ Plus models are expected to feature a 48-megapixel rear camera lens with a stacked CMOS image sensor (CIS) design that can capture more light. Production yield issues of the new sensor design have likely prevented Apple from adopting it across all ‌iPhone 15‌ models this year, and while Sony’s high-end CIS capacity is expected to remain tight through 2024, Apple has secured most of Sony’s orders ahead of time. According to Kuo, Sony’s tight capacity is expected to benefit rival supplier Will Semi, which will obta...

South Korea vs. Germany highlights: Germany eliminated after 1-1 draw

The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup continued Thursday (on FOX and the FOX Sports app), with South Korea (0-1-2) battling Germany (1-1-1) to a draw at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. Shockingly, Germany is eliminated from the tournament before the knockout stage for the first time in Women's World Cup history. 90+13': A tad high Sydney Lohmann's shot was a little too high for Germany, and soon after, the match was over. Germany has been eliminated. 90+11': Not quite Sydney Lohmann had a small opening to shoot, but her shot went just barely to the left for Germany. 71': Almost South Korea's throw-in pass was an arm's length away from going in the net. 60': Denied by metal Alexandra Popp has been all around the net and nearly had another goal off a tremendous ...

iOS 17 lets users create Shortcuts actions to open specific Camera app modes

Apple’s Shortcuts app has evolved a lot since the company acquired Workflow in 2017. For those unfamiliar, it lets users create a series of automated processes on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even Apple Watch. And with iOS 17, Apple is adding even more functionality to the app, which now supports Camera app actions. Camera app shortcuts coming to iOS 17 As noted by Matthew Cassineli, the latest iOS 17 beta available to developers and public beta testers adds new Shortcuts actions to open specific camera modes in the Camera app. With the new “Open Camera” action, users can choose between different camera modes and “immediately open any preset using Shortcuts.” These shortcuts can be very useful for a lot of things, like creating voice commands to use Siri to open the Camera app in a spe...

Voyager 2 Phones Home After Communications Lost

After days of silence, NASA's Voyager 2 finally phoned home. "A bit like hearing the spacecraft's 'heartbeat,' it confirms the spacecraft is still broadcasting, which engineers expected," NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said in a tweet Tuesday. Communication was lost with the 46-year-old spacecraft about two weeks ago when a wrong command was accidentally sent by flight controllers. That pointed Voyager 2's antenna the wrong way, tilting it 2 degrees away from Earth, according to JPL. Voyager 2 was launched in 1977 to explore far-away planets, and it's now more than 12 billion miles from Earth. The "carrier signal" was picked up during a routine scan of the sky by NASA's Deep Space Network, according to JPL. The signal doesn't mean all communication has resumed, but it ind...

Framber Valdez throws 16th no-hitter in Astros history in 2-0 victory over Guardians

Framber Valdez was determined to improve this month after a subpar July where he posted a 7.29 ERA. On the first day of August he certainly did that. Valdez threw the 16th no-hitter in Houston Astros history in a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night. “The last couple of games I just wasn’t as focused as I could have been and I’ll be the first to admit that,” Valdez said in Spanish through a translator. “But today I just came very focused, very positive and just ready to leave it all out on the field.” Hours after the Astros reacquired ace Justin Verlander from the New York Mets, Valdez allowed just one baserunner on a walk in the fifth inning, but still faced the minimum thanks to a double play in that frame. “It’s a wonderful day,” manager Dusty Baker sai...
